Pahalgam Rebounds: Tourists Return to Kashmir After Terror Attack

Despite a tragic terrorist attack that claimed the lives of at least 26 people, including tourists, in Pahalgam on April 22nd, the picturesque resort town in Jammu and Kashmir is slowly returning to normalcy.

In the days following the attack, which was claimed by the Lashkar-linked Resistance Front (TRF), tourist numbers plummeted from 5,000 to 7,000 daily to a mere 50-100 visitors. However, over the weekend, a wave of resilience swept through Pahalgam as tourists began to return, bringing with them a sense of hope and optimism.

Tourists from Croatia and Serbia, who were among those exploring the town, expressed their admiration for Kashmir’s natural beauty and its warm people. Many tourists, like Croatian national Ljiljana, stated they had decided to come to Kashmir despite the attack, driven by their desire to experience its beauty. They expressed their sadness over the loss of lives but stressed their determination to enjoy their trip.

Several Indian tourists echoed these sentiments, noting that the markets and shops were open, and they felt secure with the presence of the Indian Army and local support. They were determined to continue their journey and experience all that Pahalgam had to offer.

Hoteliers in Pahalgam are offering special discounts and some restaurants are providing free meals with every order in an effort to encourage tourism and boost the local economy.

The return of tourists to Pahalgam is a testament to the strength and resilience of the people of Kashmir and a beacon of hope for the future.
