Pahalgam Attack: A Nation Reeling

Days after a horrifying terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 innocent people, the nation is still grappling with the tragedy. Candlelight marches and protests have sprung up across India, demanding justice for the victims.

International Condemnation and Response

The Pahalgam attack has also drawn international attention. In London, members of the Indian diaspora gathered outside the Pakistan High Commission to protest against the attack, outnumbering a smaller Pakistani demonstration. Meanwhile, China, a close ally of Pakistan, expressed support for an “impartial investigation” into the incident.

India Takes Action

Indian authorities are taking a hard line against terrorism. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the Pahalgam terror probe, intensifying its search for evidence and questioning eyewitnesses to expose the conspiracy behind the attack. Security agencies have also demolished the houses of three terrorists as part of their crackdown in the Kashmir Valley.

Tensions Rise

The attack has further escalated tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire for the third consecutive day, prompting a firm response from Indian troops.

Homeward Bound

Following a deadline for short-term visa holders, 537 Pakistani nationals have left India through the Attari border in the past three days. About 850 Indian nationals have also returned home during this period.

Political Fallout

The Pahalgam attack has also ignited political debate in India. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the nation of a strong response, BJP leaders have criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s comments suggesting a “no need for war” with Pakistan.

Voices of Condemnation

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condemned Pakistan’s role in the attack, calling out their claim of being a nuclear power while resorting to killing innocent civilians.
