Opposition Stands With Army in ‘Operation Sindoor’, Rahul Gandhi Calls for Parliament Session

Opposition Unites Behind Army in ‘Operation Sindoor’
Leaders from across the political spectrum gathered for an all-party meeting on Thursday to discuss the aftermath of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ the Indian military’s recent action against terrorism. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, speaking to reporters after the meeting, said that the Opposition expressed strong support for both the government and the armed forces.
Kharge emphasized the unity among the parties, stating that they made it clear to the government, ‘you move ahead and we are with you in the decisions you take and are standing with the army.'”
Disappointment Over Modi’s Absence
However, Kharge expressed disappointment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend the meeting. He said the Congress had hoped for a brief address from the Prime Minister about the anti-terrorism operation and a chance for him to brief the leaders on the situation.
Kharge noted that Modi had also missed the previous all-party meeting on the issue.
Rahul Gandhi’s Call for Parliament Session
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, according to Kharge, urged the government to call a Parliament session to send a strong message to the nation. Gandhi argued that a session would allow MPs to voice their views and bolster public confidence.
Kharge said the government did not provide any assurance on calling a session.
Emphasis on Border Security
The meeting also addressed concerns about the safety of people living in border areas, particularly those affected by shelling in Jammu and Kashmir. Kharge said those who have lost their lives in the shelling should be taken care of, and the government assured the Opposition that they would take all necessary steps to address the situation.
Key Government Figures Present
The government delegation at the meeting was led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Other key figures included Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, BJP President J P Nadda, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Opposition Leaders Speak Out
Apart from Kharge and Gandhi, other prominent opposition figures who attended the meeting included Trinamool Congress leader Sandip Bandyopadhyay and DMK leader T R Baalu.
