India Targets Terror Camps in Pakistan: ‘Operation Sindoor’ Kills 70

India Strikes Terror Camps in Pakistan
In a pre-dawn raid, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes, which began around 1:04 am and lasted until 1:30 am on May 7, 2025, reportedly killed 70 terrorists.
Operation Sindoor: Aimed at Dismantling Terror Infrastructure
India claims the operation was a direct response to the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attacks aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and prevent future attacks on Indian soil.
Key Targets: Lashkar-e-Taiba, JeM, and Hizbul Mujahideen
The Indian Army released videos showcasing the strikes on various camps linked to terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Some of the key targets included:
- Markaz Abbas Terrorist Camp, Kotli (PoK): A nerve center for LeT suicide bomber training, housing over 50 terrorists.
- Gulpur Terrorist Camp, Kotli: A Lashkar-e-Taiba base about 30 kilometers from the Line of Control (LoC), used to train terrorists involved in the Poonch and pilgrim bus attacks.
- Sarjal Camp, Sialkot: Linked to the killing of four Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel in March.
- JeM Headquarters, Bahawalpur and LeT Headquarters, Muridke (Pakistan): Sites with a history of training high-profile terrorists, including Ajmal Kasab and David Headley.
- Mahmoona Jaya Camp, Sialkot: Hizbul Mujahideen-linked camp used to spread terror in the Kathua-Jammu region.
Government Response
Addressing a press conference, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized the necessity of bringing the perpetrators and planners of the Pahalgam attack to justice. He stated the strikes were “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible,” focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and deterring future attacks. He also criticized Pakistan’s lack of action against terrorist groups operating within its territory.
