IAEA Reassures: No Radiation Leak From Pakistan

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stepped in to quell concerns about a potential nuclear leak in Pakistan following the recent military escalation between India and Pakistan. The agency has categorically stated that there is no evidence of any radiation leak or release from any nuclear facilities in Pakistan.

Addressing Social Media Speculation

The clarification comes in response to widespread social media speculation and international media reports suggesting that a nuclear stockpile in Pakistan may have been targeted during India’s airstrikes. Operation Sindoor, as the Indian operation was named, targeted the Mushaf air base in Sargodha, near Kirana Hills, a strategic location used by Pakistan for its F-16 fighter jets.

India Denies Targeting Nuclear Sites

Air Marshal A K Bharti, an Indian Air Force spokesperson, has also denied that India targeted Kirana Hills, which is reportedly home to nuclear installations. He stated that the Indian Air Force was unaware of the site’s significance and had not conducted any strikes there.

US Responds to Rumors

The IAEA’s statement was also prompted by inquiries regarding potential nuclear incidents or spills reported to their Incident and Emergency Centre. Additionally, the US State Department was questioned about whether a team had been sent to Islamabad due to reports of nuclear radiation leaks in secure sites. The US, however, declined to provide any details about such a deployment.

Pakistan Denies Nuclear Angle

Pakistan has also denied any involvement of nuclear assets in the conflict. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister has publicly stated that the nuclear angle is unfounded.

India Reaffirms Stance

India has maintained a firm stance against nuclear blackmail and cross-border terrorism. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that India’s military action was solely in the conventional domain and denied any speculation about a nuclear conflict.

Background

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply following a suicide bombing in Kashmir claimed by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed group. India responded with airstrikes on Pakistani soil, targeting what it claimed were terrorist infrastructure and training camps.
