Popular folk singer Neha Singh Rathore has landed in hot water after being booked by Uttar Pradesh police for her social media posts following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people.

An FIR was filed against Rathore at a police station in Lucknow, accusing her of sharing “objectionable” content that targeted a specific religious community and could potentially disrupt national unity. The complaint was lodged by poet Abhay Pratap Singh, who alleged that Rathore’s posts on X (formerly Twitter) could incite violence and harm national integrity.

Police have booked Rathore under multiple sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to promoting communal disharmony, disturbing public peace, and endangering India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity. She also faces charges under the Information Technology Act.

Rathore’s Response

Rathore has vehemently denied the charges, posting a video on X stating that the BJP’s IT cell is labeling her as anti-national because a Pakistani social media account copied her video. She emphasized her family’s strong ties to the Indian Army, with 14 members serving in various capacities, including her brother fighting Naxalites in Chhattisgarh and her uncle participating in the Kargil War.
