Recently, against the backdrop of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, some sweet shops in Jaipur, Rajasthan, have ignited a controversy by renaming Mysore Pak to Mysore Shree. This decision, fueled by a desire to show patriotism, has sparked debate and divided opinions.

Owners of sweet shops like Tyohaar Sweets and Bombay Misthan Bhandar, two of Jaipur’s oldest, believe that changing the name is a symbolic gesture of support for their country. Anjali Jain, owner of Tyohaar Sweets, expressed that patriotism shouldn’t be confined to borders but should be felt in every Indian heart. Vineet Trikha, general manager at Bombay Misthan Bhandar, stated that the name change was a clear message to any potential threats to India’s security.

However, the descendants of Kaksura Madappa, the creator of Mysore Pak, are strongly opposed to the name change. S Nataraj, a descendant, emphasizes that the sweet has a rightful name and should not be altered. He argues that changing the name misrepresents the legacy and cultural significance of Mysore Pak.
