Indian Travel Vlogger Accused of Spying: From Lahore to Jail

Travel Vlogger Arrested for Spying Allegations
Jyoti Malhotra, a popular travel vlogger known for her channel ‘Travel With Jo,’ has been arrested by Haryana police on charges of spying for Pakistan. Malhotra, who boasts over 3.2 lakh subscribers on YouTube and a significant Instagram following of 13.4 lakh, is accused of providing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence operatives and promoting pro-Pakistan narratives online.
Social Media Trail Leads to Arrest
According to DSP Kamaljit Singh, who is leading the investigation, Malhotra had been in constant contact with Pakistani intelligence handlers, including Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, who was recently expelled from India. Her social media activity, including frequent praise for Pakistan and visits to the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi for events, raised suspicion. One Instagram post even referred to Lahore as the “cultural heart of Pakistan.”
Travels to Pakistan and Suspicious Contacts
Malhotra’s YouTube channel features over seven videos documenting her trips to Pakistan, including visits to Lahore and other parts of the country. Investigators have uncovered evidence of her traveling to Bali with a Pakistani intelligence operative, whom she reportedly saved in her phone as ‘Jatt Randhawa’.
Espionage Charges and Legal Proceedings
The arrest comes after a parallel espionage probe involving a staff member at the Pakistan High Commission, who was also expelled from India. Malhotra has been charged under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 153 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. She was produced before a court and remanded to five-day police custody.
Investigation Continues
Police are currently examining Malhotra’s devices and bank transactions to determine the full extent of her alleged espionage activities. The investigation is ongoing.
