India Launches Missile Strikes in Pakistan

India has carried out precise missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam attack. The operation, codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor,’ took place early Wednesday, two weeks after the attack that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.

Heightened Security in Border States

Punjab and Rajasthan, states sharing borders with Pakistan, have been placed on high alert. Punjab has a 532-km border with Pakistan, while Rajasthan’s border stretches for about 1,070 km.

The Punjab Police has cancelled all leave for its personnel, and the state government has shut down schools in six border districts – Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran – until further notice.

Rajasthan has also cancelled leaves for all administrative officials and police personnel deployed in border areas.

Punjab Takes Precautionary Measures

Punjab Minister Aman Arora emphasized the state’s crucial role in times of military tension. All districts near the border have been placed on high alert, and public events have been cancelled. He assured citizens that the Punjab Police, as the second line of defense, is fully prepared to respond to any Pakistani attack.

Schools Closed in Rajasthan

In Rajasthan, all government and private schools have been closed in four border districts – Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer. Authorities have made preparations for potential emergencies.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has directed officials to cancel leaves for all police personnel. Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant and DGP U R Sahoo presided over a review meeting with divisional commissioners, collectors, IGs, and SPs, urging them to remain at their headquarters. Security arrangements across the state have been tightened.
