India Responds to Pakistani Attacks

India and Pakistan are locked in a fresh military standoff after Pakistan attempted to escalate tensions with attacks on Indian military installations early Thursday morning. The Indian government confirmed that its forces retaliated by targeting Pakistani air defense systems, including locations in Lahore.

According to the Indian government, Pakistan used drones and missiles in its attacks, which targeted several locations in northern and western India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. These included cities like Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh. Indian air defense systems successfully neutralized the Pakistani weapons.

‘Same Domain, Same Intensity’

The Indian government emphasized that its response to the Pakistani attacks was proportionate and within the same domain. They stressed that the retaliation was launched with the same intensity as the initial strikes, sending a clear message of deterrence. The government highlighted that the debris from the destroyed Pakistani drones and missiles will be collected as evidence to support India’s longstanding accusations that Pakistan, or elements within its deep state, support cross-border terrorism.

Escalation Follows Precision Strikes

This latest escalation comes a day after Indian armed forces conducted precision strikes on four terrorist camps in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Codenamed Operation Sindoor, the strikes involved 24 munitions, including HAMMER smart bombs and SCALP missiles, which destroyed the headquarters and training camps of terrorist groups.

The Indian military emphasized that the targets were chosen based on credible intelligence and that the operation was focused, measured, and non-escalatory. They also stated that no Pakistani military establishments were targeted during the operation. However, they warned Pakistan that any further attacks on Indian military targets would be met with more decisive action.

Ongoing Operation

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated the warning this morning during an all-party briefing, stating that Operation Sindoor remains ongoing in response to Pakistan’s actions.
