India Strikes a Major Blow Against Naxalism: 31 Maoists Killed in 21-Day Offensive

Major Victory Declared in Fight Against Naxalism
Indian Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared a major victory in the ongoing fight against Naxalism, following a 21-day operation in the Karreguttalu hills on the border of Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Shah took to social media to announce that 31 “notorious Naxalites” were killed in the operation, which he hailed as the biggest ever against Naxalism in India.
Operation ‘Kurraguttalu’ Dismantles Key Maoist Stronghold
Describing the operation as a historic breakthrough, Shah praised the bravery and precision of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Special Task Force (STF), and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) for successfully completing the mission without any casualties among the security personnel.
The Karreguttalu hills were a significant stronghold for Naxal organizations, including the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion 1, the DKSZC, TSC, and CRC. According to Shah, these groups used the area to train, strategize, and manufacture weapons and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Significant Weapons Cache Recovered
During the operation, security forces recovered a substantial cache of weapons, including automatic and semi-automatic firearms, along with over 450 IEDs, detonators, explosive materials, and nearly 12,000 kilograms of logistical supplies. This impressive haul included medical equipment, electrical components, and Maoist propaganda literature.
Impact on Naxalism
The operation dealt a significant blow to Naxal operations in the region. CRPF Director General GP Singh stated that the operation achieved more than its objectives and signaled the beginning of the end for Naxal violence in India. He reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating Naxalism completely by March 31, 2026.
Singh highlighted the significant progress made in combating Naxalism since 2019, citing a reduction in the number of Naxal-affected districts, violent incidents, and security personnel casualties.
Ongoing Efforts and Future Plans
Seventeen First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed in relation to the operation, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to join the investigation to track down the financial and logistical support networks behind the Naxal network.
The government continues to intensify its efforts to eradicate Naxalism, establishing security camps and night landing helipads in newly liberated areas to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
