India and Pakistan’s NSAs Hold Talks Amidst Rising Tensions
Amidst heightened tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval spoke with his Pakistani counterpart, Lieutenant General Asim Malik. This significant conversation comes after India carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on May 7th, 2025.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the talks during an interview with TRT World. He stated that these discussions between the NSAs of the two nuclear-armed neighbors could indicate a potential de-escalation.
India’s Operation Sindoor
India’s Operation Sindoor targeted terror camps, aiming to neutralize top leaders from Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba responsible for orchestrating attacks within India. The Indian Ministry of Defence emphasized that the strikes were precise, measured, and non-escalatory, avoiding any targeting of Pakistani military installations.
These actions were a direct response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.
Escalating Tensions
Following the Indian strikes, Pakistani troops intensified cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. This shelling targeted civilian areas in Karnah, prompting most residents to seek refuge in safer locations.
Reports indicate that at least 15 Indian nationals were killed and 43 others injured in the ongoing heavy firing and shelling by Pakistani forces along the LoC and International Border in Poonch and Tangdhar areas.
