India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates: Delhi on High Alert, Schools Shut in Gurugram and Punjab

India-Pakistan Tensions Flare Up
Tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a boiling point, prompting a series of developments across the region. What started with a suspected Pakistani drone attack on Indian military installations on Wednesday night escalated quickly, leading to retaliatory strikes by India and widespread security measures.
Drone Attack and Retaliation
On Thursday evening, Indian defense systems successfully thwarted a suspected Pakistani drone attack in Jammu. This incident followed a series of drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan against Indian military installations the previous night.
India responded swiftly with its own military strikes, dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early Thursday morning. These strikes were in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
Heightened Security and Emergency Preparedness
In response to the escalating situation, the Delhi government has cancelled all leave for its employees until further notice. District magistrates in the national capital are holding meetings with their teams to review health and disaster management preparedness, ensuring they are ready to handle any potential emergencies.
Haryana’s Gurugram has closed all schools, and schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab have also been shut for three days. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst heightened security concerns.
National Impact
The rising tensions have also impacted national events. Air raid sirens blared in affected cities, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, was suspended midway.
Blackout Enforcement
As part of a mock drill ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), a blackout was enforced at Statesman House in New Delhi on Wednesday.
