India, Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Tensions

India-Pakistan Ceasefire: A Brief Truce Amidst Rising Tensions
India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire, putting a halt to the escalating tensions that followed India’s military response to a deadly terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. The agreement came after a phone call between the two countries’ military operations directors, according to India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri.
The ceasefire follows a period of heightened conflict that began on April 22nd when a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7th in retaliation, targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Drone Attacks Continue Despite Ceasefire Agreement
Despite the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan continued its drone attacks on India for a third consecutive day. These attacks were unsuccessful, according to reports.
India Condemns Pakistan’s Actions
India has strongly condemned Pakistan’s actions, labeling them as “escalatory” and “provocative.” Vikram Misri, India’s Foreign Secretary, addressed a press briefing where he presented evidence of Pakistan’s actions and refuted the misinformation being spread by Pakistan.
Looking Ahead: Conditions for Lasting Peace
While the ceasefire provides a much-needed break in the violence, it’s important to note that it comes with conditions. India has made it clear that lasting peace will require Pakistan to take concrete steps to address terrorism emanating from its territory.
