NEW DELHI – In a dramatic escalation of tensions, India launched retaliatory air strikes against at least four Pakistani air bases on Saturday, according to news agency ANI. Multiple explosions were reported in various locations within Pakistan, indicating the Indian military’s decisive action.

The strikes follow a series of escalating provocations from Pakistan over the past two days, including the use of armed drones to target 26 locations across India, ranging from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat.

Pakistan Claims Targets

Pakistan claims that three of its air bases were targeted: Nur Khan air base near Islamabad, Murid air base in Chakwal city, and Rafiqui air base in the Jhang district.

Indian Response to Ongoing Attacks

In recent days, Pakistan has repeatedly targeted Indian cities and security installations with drones and artillery fire. On Thursday night, India successfully thwarted Pakistan’s attempts to strike military sites with drones and missiles, preventing attacks on 15 cities.

The Indian armed forces responded with precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan on Wednesday under Operation Sindoor, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

Heightened Tensions Along the LoC

The situation along the Line of Control (LoC) is tense, with reports of heavy engagement and surface-to-air missile systems activated in Srinagar.

Previous Pakistani Drone Incursions

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi described the unprecedented scale of Pakistani intrusions on May 7 and 8, when hundreds of drones and heavy artillery were launched across the LoC and International Border. She said around 300 to 400 drones were used in an attempt to infiltrate at 36 locations. Many of these drones were shot down by Indian forces. Forensics are investigating the wreckage of the drones, with initial reports suggesting they are Turkish Asisguard Songar drones.

India’s Statement on Retaliation

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that India’s retaliatory action was “proportionate, adequate, and responsible” to Pakistan’s provocative drone and artillery attacks on Thursday night.
