Ceasefire Broken as Drone Attacks Rock India

Just hours after India and Pakistan agreed to de-escalate tensions and cease military operations, Pakistan violated the ceasefire with drone attacks and shelling, prompting a strong response from New Delhi.

India’s Strong Condemnation

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, condemned the attacks, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. ‘For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding reached earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan,’ Misri stated. ‘This is a breach of the understanding agreed upon earlier today.’

He further warned that India’s armed forces would respond firmly to any further violations. ‘The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take these violations very seriously. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address them and to deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,’ Misri added.

Earlier Truce Agreement

Earlier in the day, India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire effective from 5 pm on Saturday. The agreement, initiated by Pakistan and held at the level of Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries, aimed to halt all firing and military operations on land, in the air, and at sea.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the ceasefire and thanked US President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating the peace initiative. He expressed hope that it would mark a new beginning for resolving regional issues.

Drone Attacks Across India

However, within hours of the truce announcement, Pakistan Army violated the agreement with drone attacks targeting Srinagar, other parts of Kashmir, Jammu, and locations in Rajasthan and Punjab, along both the Line of Control and the International Border.
