India and Pakistan Trade Fire Across the LoC Amid Rising Tensions

Tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, with the two countries exchanging fire across the Line of Control (LoC) for the fourth consecutive day.
According to the Indian Army, Pakistani Army posts initiated unprovoked firing with small arms across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts during the night of April 27-28, 2025. Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively to the Pakistani aggression.
This latest incident follows a pattern of cross-border skirmishes. On the night of April 26-27, Pakistan also fired at several Indian posts along the LoC. The Indian Army has reported responding accordingly with appropriate measures.
These escalating tensions stem from the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, where 26 people lost their lives.
In response to the attack, India has taken several retaliatory steps, including canceling visas for Pakistanis and suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan has responded by putting the 1972 Shimla Agreement on hold and closing its airspace to Indian carriers.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for a decisive fight against terrorism, but also cautioned against actions that could alienate the people of Kashmir. He emphasized the need to punish the guilty while ensuring innocent people are not harmed.
