Hyderabad on High Alert: Bomb Plot Thwarted, 2 ISIS-Linked Suspects in Custody

Hyderabad was rocked by a major security scare this week after police foiled a bomb plot and arrested two suspects linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

A Joint Operation Uncovers the Plot

The Telangana Police, working in collaboration with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, apprehended the suspects in a swift operation. Siraj, from Vizianagaram, and Syed Sameer, from Hyderabad, were allegedly planning to carry out a dummy blast in the city.

Suspects and Their Links to ISIS

According to officials, Siraj was arrested during a raid in Vizianagaram where police seized raw materials commonly used in bomb-making, including aluminium and sulphur powder.

Siraj’s confession led police to Sameer in Hyderabad, who was found to be actively posting comments on social media groups espousing radical ideology. Both suspects were in contact with an ISIS module based in Saudi Arabia, authorities revealed.

Charges and Investigation

Both Siraj and Sameer have been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act of 1908. Vizianagaram SP Vakul Jindal confirmed that the seized materials have been sent for forensic analysis, and the suspects are currently in judicial custody.

Police are continuing to investigate the case, seeking to determine if the suspects had links with any banned Muslim organizations or other terror groups, and the extent and duration of their involvement.

Heightened Security in the Wake of Recent Attacks

This incident follows the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where a group of terrorists, including Pakistani nationals and local operatives linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, attacked tourists. The perpetrators remain at large. The heightened security alert across several states underscores the ongoing threat posed by terrorism.
