Rajnath Singh’s Gujarat Visit Amid Tensions with Pakistan

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting the Bhuj airbase in Gujarat on Friday, a day after addressing security personnel in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. This comes amidst heightened tensions with Pakistan following recent military skirmishes.

Reviewing Preparedness

Singh’s visit to Gujarat, which shares a 508-kilometer border with Pakistan, is expected to focus on reviewing the operational preparedness of the armed forces, particularly in light of Pakistan’s recent use of drones to target Indian territory. Bhuj was reportedly one of the areas targeted by Pakistani drones during the four-day conflict, though the Indian armed forces successfully neutralized the threat.

Nuclear Concerns Raised

The minister’s visit follows his trip to Srinagar, where he raised concerns about Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities. He questioned the safety of nuclear weapons in the hands of Pakistan and urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.

“The whole world has seen how irresponsibly Pakistan has threatened India. Today, from the land of Srinagar, I want to raise this question whether nuclear weapons are safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation. I believe that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Singh said while addressing Indian soldiers in Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment.

Addressing Terrorism

Singh also addressed the issue of terrorism during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that terrorists targeted tourists in Pahalgam based on their religion. He emphasized that Indian forces retaliated against terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir based on their actions.

“Terrorists killed innocent people in Pahalgam by asking their ‘dharma’ (religion). The entire world saw the reply you gave after that…We killed terrorists by looking at their ‘karma’ (deeds),” he said.

A Show of Strength

The defense minister’s visit to both Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat can be seen as a show of strength and determination in the face of Pakistani aggression. It underscores India’s commitment to protecting its borders and safeguarding its national security.
