Ghaziabad Rain: Police Sub-Inspector Dies in Tragic Office Collapse
In a heartbreaking incident, a police sub-inspector tragically lost his life on Saturday after the roof of the ACP office in Ghaziabad’s Ankur Vihar collapsed due to heavy rains. The deceased, identified as sub-inspector Virendra Mishra, was a reader for ACP Ankur Vihar and had been sleeping in the office the previous night.
Roof Collapse Claims Life
According to ACP Ajay Kumar Singh of Ankur Vihar, the incident occurred during heavy rainfall and strong winds. The roof of the office collapsed, and the debris tragically fell on Sub-Inspector Mishra, who was sleeping on a bed. The police were alerted to the collapse in the morning, but sadly, Sub-Inspector Mishra had already passed away.
Investigation Launched
The police have initiated a post-mortem examination and have ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
Heavy Rains Batter Delhi-NCR
The tragic incident occurred amidst widespread rainfall and thunderstorms that lashed Delhi and its surrounding areas. The downpour led to significant disruption, including flight delays, uprooted trees and electricity poles, and waterlogging in several areas.
The India Meteorological Department reported that the city’s primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded winds gusting up to 82 kmph and 81.2 mm of rain within a six-hour period. The sudden weather change also resulted in a sharp drop in temperatures, with the minimum temperature recorded at 19.8 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the normal.
Flight Disruptions and Waterlogging
The heavy rains caused extensive disruption to flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. A total of 49 flights, including 17 international ones, were diverted, and 180 flights faced delays. Waterlogging was reported in several areas across Delhi, including Moti Bagh, Minto Road, ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Cantonment, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, and Chanakyapuri.
