The G7 group of wealthy nations is calling for an immediate end to the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan.

In a statement released on Friday, May 9, 2025, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union expressed deep concern over the rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

A Plea for Peace

They urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and engage in direct dialogue to find a peaceful resolution.

The G7 statement specifically condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, calling it “egregious.” They stressed that any further military escalation would pose a grave threat to regional stability and expressed worry for the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire.

The statement underscored the G7’s commitment to closely monitoring the situation and supporting diplomatic efforts to achieve a swift and lasting peace.
