Folk Singer Neha Singh Rathore in Trouble Over ‘Provocative’ Posts About Pahalgam Attack

Trouble for a Folk Singer

Neha Singh Rathore, a popular folk singer and poet, is facing serious charges after posting what some consider ‘provocative’ content on social media about the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Police in Lucknow have filed a case against her, accusing her of sedition and inciting religious tensions.

The Pahalgam attack, which tragically killed 26 people, mostly tourists, last week, has deeply shaken the nation. The terrorists reportedly targeted the victims based on their religion, further inflaming the situation.

A complaint filed against Rathore alleges that her Twitter posts, which have since been shared widely, were inflammatory and could harm national unity. The complainant, Abhay Pratap Singh, claims that Rathore’s words could incite violence and division between religious communities.

Rathore’s Response

Rathore, however, strongly denies the charges and accuses the government of trying to deflect attention from its failures in handling the Pahalgam attack. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), she challenged the government to focus on catching the terrorists instead of silencing her. She also defended her right to question the government in a democracy.

The police have registered a case against Rathore under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), India’s new criminal code, which includes charges of promoting sectarian animosity, disturbing public tranquillity, and endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India. She has also been booked under the Information Technology Act.
