Did Trump Broker Peace? Pakistan Responds to US President’s Role in India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Trump’s Unexpected Announcement
In an unexpected turn of events, it was former US President Donald Trump, not the military commands of India and Pakistan, who announced a ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed nations. Trump made the announcement on Saturday evening via his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that a “FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE” was in effect, crediting American diplomatic intervention.
Pakistani Envoy’s Response
This unusual announcement prompted questions about the US President’s role in the cease-fire. Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, was asked about this during an interview with Sky News. While he didn’t have specific details on the US involvement, he expressed confidence in Trump’s claim, stating, “I don’t have the details about it, but I have no reason to doubt President Trump, who has ‘tweeted’ that they have played a role in it. So it is very good if our friends are there to help us reach peace and then persevere with the peace.”
Trump’s Praise and Future Hopes
On Sunday, Trump continued to praise the “strong and unwaveringly powerful” leadership of both India and Pakistan, calling their decision to cease hostilities a “brave” act. He also expressed his hope for a long-term solution to the Kashmir conflict, stating, “I will work with you both to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!”.
A Moment of Calm in Kashmir
The ceasefire brought a welcome respite to the Kashmir valley, with residents experiencing their first night in six days without the constant sound of aircraft, missiles, and drones overhead.
