Aftermath of Pahalgam Terror Attack

The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are cracking down hard on terrorists and their supporters in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam attack on April 22nd, where 26 people lost their lives.

In just 48 hours, security forces have torn down the homes of six suspected terrorists as part of a massive effort to dismantle the terror network. This comes as police conducted over 60 raids in Srinagar on Saturday, with mobile checkpoints set up across Anantnag district to keep a close eye on any suspicious activity.

Pakistanis Deportation

Following the government’s order, all Pakistani nationals on short-term visas in Uttar Pradesh, except for one, have been sent back to Pakistan. The state’s DGP, Prashant Kumar, confirmed this, saying the deportations were carried out based on instructions from both the Indian and Uttar Pradesh governments.

Kumar also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Kashmiri students, tourists, and businesspeople in Uttar Pradesh, urging officials to take all necessary precautions.

International Response

The attack drew international condemnation. FBI chief Kash Patel expressed his condolences to the victims and pledged continued support to the Indian government in combating terrorism.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized Pakistani People’s Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his recent anti-India remarks. Sarma pledged that India, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, would relentlessly pursue and destroy terror infrastructure wherever it exists.

Political Reactions

In India, the Pahalgam attack sparked a range of political reactions. AAP MP Sanjay Singh accused the Centre of security lapses, calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

Veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar questioned whether the tragedy stemmed from unresolved issues related to the Partition of India.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the attack during a phone call with Prime Minister Modi, stressing the need for regional cooperation to fight terrorism.

Local Impact

The wife of a Pahalgam victim, Shubham Dwivedi, has requested martyr status for her husband, who she says bravely identified himself as Hindu, potentially saving several lives during the attack.

In response to reports of harassment against Kashmiri residents in other states, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has dispatched his cabinet ministers to various cities to coordinate with local authorities and ensure their safety.
