Congress’s ‘Gayab’ Tweet Sparks Controversy After Pahalgam Attack

Congress Under Fire for ‘Gayab’ Jibe at PM Modi
The Congress party is facing backlash after a tweet questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the recent Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The tweet, which referred to Modi as ‘Gayab’ (missing), has ignited a massive row, with the BJP accusing the Congress of sympathizing with Pakistan and terrorists.
The controversy erupted after the BJP shared an image of the Congress party symbol (the hand) superimposed on the Pakistani flag. BJP leader Nishikant Dubey claimed that the Congress’s hand is with Pakistan’s terrorists.
Meanwhile, several BJP leaders, including Gaurav Bhatia, have launched scathing attacks on the Congress, comparing it to the Lashkar-e-Pakistan and even dubbing it ‘Muslim League 2.0’. They accused the Congress of weakening India at a sensitive time by questioning the government’s response to the Pahalgam attack.
Congress’s Explanation and Continuing Criticism
Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao attempted to clarify the tweet, stating it was meant to highlight the PM’s absence from addressing the nation or clarifying his stance on the Pahalgam attack. However, his attempt at clarification backfired when he commented that the Pulwama attack had “helped Narendra Modi win Lok Sabha elections”, and Godhra riots had helped him win Gujarat polls. This further inflamed tensions, with the BJP accusing the Congress of indulging in divisive politics.
The BJP’s strong reaction and accusations have drawn comparisons to the Congress’s aggressive criticism of the government following the Pathankot, Uri, and Pulwama attacks in 2016 and 2019.
The incident has once again highlighted the deep political divide in India and the tendency to use sensitive events for political gain.
