Colonel Sofiya Qureshi’s Family Joins PM Modi’s Roadshow in Vadodara

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the Indian Army officer who gained recognition for her role in ‘Operation Sindoor’, was joined by her proud family at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow in Vadodara on May 26th. Colonel Qureshi, a native of Vadodara, is the daughter of Halima Qureshi and the sister of Mohammad Sanjay Qureshi and Shyna Sunsara.

A Family Affair

The family was present among the enthusiastic crowd that welcomed PM Modi upon his arrival in Gujarat for a two-day visit. They expressed their immense pride and admiration for Colonel Qureshi’s achievements and applauded the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

Celebrating Women’s Empowerment

Shyna Sunsara, Colonel Qureshi’s twin sister, spoke to the media, sharing her joy at meeting PM Modi. She praised the Prime Minister’s efforts towards empowering women and highlighted Colonel Qureshi’s accomplishment as a source of inspiration for the nation.

“We felt good meeting PM Modi. PM Modi has done a lot for women’s empowerment. Sofia is my twin sister. When your sister does something for the country, it inspires not only me but others as well. She is no longer just my sister but the country’s sister as well,” Sunsara said.

She further emphasized the significance of ‘Operation Sindoor’, stating that the press briefings conducted by Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh sent a powerful message to the world, showcasing women’s capabilities in the military.

A Proud Family

Colonel Qureshi’s brother, Sanjay Qureshi, echoed his sister’s sentiments, expressing his pride in her accomplishment and thanking the Indian Army and the government for providing her with this opportunity. He spoke of the immense satisfaction of seeing a woman take revenge for the suffering of other women.

Colonel Qureshi’s mother, Halima Qureshi, echoed the sentiment, stating that her daughter is not just their family’s pride but also the pride of the entire country.

Who is Colonel Sofiya Qureshi?

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is a decorated officer in the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals. She hails from a military background, with her grandfather and father having served in the armed forces. Commissioned in 1999, Colonel Qureshi has served in various roles across the country, including counter-insurgency zones. In 2016, she made history by becoming the first woman officer to lead an Indian Army training contingent at the ASEAN Plus multinational field training exercise, Force 18.
