China’s Name Game in Arunachal Pradesh: India Says ‘No Way!’

India Stands Firm Against China’s Arunachal Pradesh Renaming
India has once again rejected China’s attempts to rename locations in Arunachal Pradesh, a region claimed by Beijing but firmly controlled by India. This latest move comes just days after China’s Civil Aviation Ministry released new names for 27 places in the state.
‘Creative Naming Won’t Change Reality’
In a strong statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called China’s actions “vain and preposterous.” They emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and that “creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality.”
A Pattern of Assertive Actions
This isn’t the first time China has tried to assert its claim over Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, this is the latest in a series of similar moves. Last year, China released a list of 30 new names for places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the region. They’ve also released previous lists in 2017, 2021, and 2023.
China refers to Arunachal Pradesh as Zangnan, a term they use to highlight their claims over the territory. They’ve even provided detailed maps and coordinates alongside these lists of names.
India’s Unwavering Stance
India has consistently rejected China’s attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. They maintain that the state is an inseparable part of India and that any attempt to change its status through naming exercises is futile.
