Turkish airport services company Çelebi Airport Services Private Limited is taking the Indian government to court after its security clearance was revoked on grounds of national security.

Challenging the Decision

Çelebi filed a plea in the Delhi High Court, arguing that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) decision was made without warning and would have serious consequences for the company and its employees. The company claims the move could threaten 3,791 jobs and damage investor confidence.

Vague Reasons, Serious Impact

In its plea, Çelebi argues that the government’s reliance on the vague term ‘national security’ without providing any specific reasons for the revocation is legally insufficient. The company states that the order fails to disclose any specific or substantive reasons for the decision, only referencing a general threat to national security.

Çelebi further emphasizes that while its shareholders are registered in Turkey, the majority ownership and control of the group lies with companies not incorporated or originating in Turkey.

Next Steps

The case is expected to be heard in court next week, where Çelebi will seek to overturn the revocation of its security clearance.
