BSF Jawan Held by Pakistan Rangers: Family Pleads for His Safe Return

BSF Jawan Detained by Pakistan Rangers
A Border Security Force (BSF) constable from West Bengal, Purnam Kumar Shaw, has been detained by Pakistan rangers. The incident happened near Ferozepur on Wednesday, amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly militant attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
Shaw’s family says he accidentally crossed the border while on duty. They’ve been told that talks for his release are underway, and both the central and state governments are working to bring him home safely.
Shaw’s wife, Rajani, spoke to reporters tearfully, pleading for her husband’s swift return. She said she last spoke to him on Tuesday night and that he was detained by Pakistani rangers early Wednesday morning. The couple has a seven-year-old child.
His brother, Rajeshwar Pandey, explained that Shaw had been feeling unwell while on duty and decided to rest under a tree. That’s when Pakistani rangers approached him, took his weapons, and detained him.
Shaw’s family is understandably worried, especially given the recent attack in Pahalgam. They’re hoping for his safe return and are anxiously awaiting news.
A Tense Situation
The incident adds another layer of complexity to the already strained India-Pakistan relationship. After the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, India took strong diplomatic and strategic measures in response to Pakistan’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism.
