Border Tensions Rise Again: Pakistan Fires Along LoC, India Retaliates

Renewed Clashes Along the LoC
Tensions flared up yet again along the Line of Control (LoC) separating India and Pakistan as Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on the night of April 28-29. They targeted areas in the Kupwara, Baramulla, and Akhnoor sectors, marking the fifth straight day of such incidents.
The Indian Army swiftly responded, stating they countered the provocation with a measured and effective response.
Escalation Following Pahalgam Attack
These latest clashes come on the heels of a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22 that claimed 26 lives. Following the attack, security forces in the Kashmir Valley have intensified their anti-terror operations, leading to heightened tensions along the border.
Earlier this week, on the night of April 26-27, Pakistani troops also opened fire on Indian posts in the Tutmari Gali and Rampur sectors, prompting a swift response from the Indian Army.
High-Level Security Meetings
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the military’s readiness in light of the recent attacks. The meeting took place just hours after the latest Pakistani firing.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, India has taken a series of strong measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 and immediately shutting down the Attari Integrated Check Post. The Cabinet Committee on Security also convened to review the situation and instructed all forces to maintain heightened vigilance.
International support has poured in for India, with governments worldwide condemning the terror attack and expressing solidarity.
