The Line of Control (LoC), the heavily fortified border between India and Pakistan, is once again tense. Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire for the fourth night in a row, firing across the border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Kupwara districts. Indian troops responded to the unprovoked firing, according to Indian Army officials.

This latest incident comes amidst heightened tension between the two countries following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last week. On April 22, 25 tourists, including a Nepalese national, were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. A local Kashmiri man also died trying to defend his community.

India Responds with Diplomatic Measures

In the wake of the attack, India has taken a series of diplomatic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and vowing to hunt down the perpetrators. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged a strong response to the violence.

Pakistan, meanwhile, has announced its own retaliatory actions and condemned India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as an “act of war.”
