India Steps Up Security After Pahalgam Attack

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a crucial security review meeting in New Delhi on May 7, 2025, bringing together the Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of states bordering Pakistan and Nepal. This meeting comes in the wake of a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which prompted a swift and decisive response from the Indian government.

Operation Sindoor: A Strong Message Against Terrorism

Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive leadership and the success of Operation Sindoor, a targeted military operation against terrorist camps across the border. The Home Minister emphasized that Operation Sindoor is a clear message to the world that India will not tolerate any threats to its security. He lauded the unity displayed by the nation in the face of this challenge, stating that it has boosted the morale of the people.

According to Shah, Operation Sindoor involved the destruction of nine terrorist-linked locations, including training camps, weapon bases, and hideouts of notorious groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Strengthening Security Measures

Home Minister Amit Shah called for enhanced security measures across the border states. He directed officials to:

  • Ensure the smooth functioning of essential services like hospitals and fire stations.
  • Maintain an uninterrupted supply of essential goods.
  • Keep disaster response teams, civil defense units, and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) on high alert.

Shah also stressed the importance of public participation and coordination between local administrations, the army, and paramilitary forces. He urged officials to monitor anti-national propaganda on social media and take swift action against those spreading hate and fear.

Addressing Public Concerns

The Home Minister emphasized the need to dispel rumors and misinformation circulating in the wake of the attack. He called for a concerted effort to spread awareness and reassure the public, while simultaneously strengthening security measures at vulnerable points.
