India’s Space Shield: 10 Satellites Keeping Watch
In a speech highlighting India’s growing space capabilities, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan revealed that at least 10 satellites are constantly working to safeguard the nation’s security. Speaking at the 5th Convocation ceremony of the Central Agricultural University in Imphal on Sunday, Narayanan emphasized the crucial role these satellites play in monitoring India’s vast coastline and northern borders.
Security Concerns and India’s Response
These comments come amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in April and subsequent military actions by both sides. Narayanan stressed the need for advanced technology like satellites and drones to ensure India’s safety in the face of these regional challenges.
India’s Space Achievements
Narayanan also highlighted India’s impressive accomplishments in the space sector. He proudly mentioned the Chandrayaan-1 mission, which made India the first nation to discover water molecules on the Moon’s surface. He further revealed India’s ambition to become a major space power, aiming to launch its own space station by 2040.
From Space Exploration to Everyday Life
He emphasized that India’s space technology is not just about exploration but also about improving the lives of its citizens. Satellites are used for a wide range of applications, including telemedicine, education, weather forecasting, and TV broadcasting. Narayanan also mentioned that ISRO is developing a satellite dedicated to helping G20 countries study climate change and air pollution.
Narayanan concluded by stating that India’s emergency response systems have significantly improved thanks to space technology, saving countless lives during disasters.
