Adani Group Deploys India’s First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck

A Step Towards Cleaner Transportation

In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, the Adani Group, led by Gautam Adani, recently launched India’s first hydrogen fuel cell truck. This innovative vehicle, flagged off by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur, is set to revolutionize the logistics sector.

This hydrogen-powered truck is a collaborative effort between Adani Enterprises, an Indian and international energy technology firm, and a major auto manufacturer. Each truck boasts smart technology and three hydrogen tanks, allowing it to carry up to 40 tons of cargo over a 200-kilometer range.

Replacing Diesel with Hydrogen

According to Adani Group, these hydrogen-powered trucks will gradually replace traditional diesel vehicles used in their logistics operations. This shift promises to significantly reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment.

“In collaboration with an Indian and international energy technology firm and a major auto manufacturer, Adani is developing hydrogen fuel cell battery-operated trucks for cargo transport,” the statement reads.

Commitment to Sustainability

The launch of this hydrogen fuel cell truck in Chhattisgarh highlights the state’s commitment to sustainability. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized the initiative’s positive impact on the environment, stating, “The launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s commitment to sustainability. Such initiatives will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and set a new standard for industry.”

Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO – Natural Resources and Director Adani Enterprises, further underscored the company’s dedication to decarbonization and responsible mining. He highlighted various initiatives undertaken by Adani Group to minimize environmental impact, including the use of autonomous dozer push technologies, solar power, digital initiatives, and tree transplanters.

Hydrogen: A Green Fuel Source

Hydrogen, being the most abundant element, produces no harmful emissions. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, like the one launched by Adani, offer comparable range and load capacity to diesel trucks while emitting only water vapor and warm air, minimizing noise pollution as well.
