Remembering Mukul Dev: A Star Lost Too Soon

The entertainment industry mourns the loss of actor Mukul Dev, who passed away at the age of 54 in New Delhi on Friday. His death came as a shock to many, leaving behind a legacy of talent and memorable performances.

A Promising Debut That Never Was

Mukul Dev was launched into the spotlight by filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in the movie ‘Dastak,’ where he starred alongside the beautiful Sushmita Sen. However, did you know that his initial foray into Bollywood was meant to be with none other than Amitabh Bachchan’s production company, ABCL?

In a past interview, Mukul revealed that he had even received a generous signing amount of Rs 75,000 from Jaya Bachchan herself. The film, titled ‘Naam Kya Hai,’ was unfortunately shelved due to a financial crisis that gripped ABCL at the time. Mukul shared his experience with Planet Bollywood, stating, “Yes, the film was complete but it could never get a release for itself. ABCL was going through a financial crisis and a couple of other films that were produced by the company during that time did not release.”

The actor fondly recalled the moment Jaya Bachchan offered him the role, initially doubting it was truly her on the phone. He said, “I even told her on phone, ‘Who is this? Why are you joking with me?’ Later when I realised it is her, I went to meet her.”

A Life Remembered

Following Mukul Dev’s passing, his brother Rahul Dev shared the heartbreaking news on social media. He wrote, “We are deeply saddened to inform you that our brother Mukul Dev passed away peacefully last night in New Delhi. He is survived by his daughter, Sia Dev, and will be dearly missed by his siblings Rashmi Kaushal, Rahul Dev, and his nephew Sidhant Dev.”
