A Wedding Fit for a Fairy Tale, But With a Twist

Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra’s fairy tale wedding in Italy back in 2014 was shrouded in secrecy. No photos surfaced online, and the couple remained tight-lipped about the details. But now, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who created Rani’s stunning bridal outfit, has spilled the beans about the intimate celebration.

A Week to Craft a Dream Dress

Speaking on the YouTube channel Fashionably Pernia, Sabyasachi shared some behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the whirlwind wedding. He revealed that Rani gave him a mere one week to design the bridal lehenga! He said, “She came over for lunch one day and said that she is getting married. I asked her how much time I had and she said one week. I had to put something together in that much time.”

Despite the tight deadline, Sabyasachi managed to create a breathtaking outfit. He described the wedding as “mad” yet “fun”, adding that Rani was incredibly chilled out throughout the process.

A Fun-Filled Affair

Sabyasachi also hinted that the wedding was a small, close-knit affair, with only a select few guests, including Karan Johar, in attendance. He recalled, “She never released the photos. But, the fact is that it was a mad wedding which was done between her, Adi, Karan, and me.”

Although Rani and Aditya have kept their marriage largely private, Rani recently offered a rare glimpse into her life with Aditya in an interview with Film Companion. She revealed that they continue to enjoy movie dates together, even after all these years.

Back on the Big Screen

On the work front, Rani is gearing up for her comeback with Mardaani 3, where she will reprise her role as the fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy. The film is set to release on February 27, 2026.
