Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Sees Box Office Growth on Day 2
Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is showing positive signs at the box office. The time loop comedy, directed by Karan Sharma, saw a growth in its earnings on day two.
Day Two Numbers
According to early estimates, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ collected ₹9 crore nett in India on Saturday, bringing its total earnings to ₹16 crore so far. The film had a decent occupancy rate of 25.18% for Hindi shows on the second day.
Comparing with Previous Releases
While still behind the box office success of Rajkummar Rao’s blockbuster ‘Stree 2’, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is performing better than his previous film, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’. ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ earned ₹5.5 crore on day one and ₹6.9 crore on day two, according to Sacnilk.com.
A Legal Battle Before Release
The film’s path to release wasn’t without controversy. Ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on May 9, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ faced a legal battle when its producers, Maddock Films, announced a direct-to-digital release on Prime Video due to security concerns following Operation Sindoor. Multiplex chain PVRINOX challenged the decision in court. Eventually, an agreement was reached, allowing the film to hit theatres on May 23.
Critical Reception
The Hindustan Times review of ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ described it as a “time-loop comedy that ends up stuck in a loop of its own clichés,” praising Wamiqa Gabbi’s performance while noting that Rajkummar Rao seems typecast in small-town roles.
