Mohanlal’s ‘Thudarum’ Makes a Splash at the Box Office

Mohanlal, the biggest name in Malayalam cinema, is known for his massive blockbusters. But his latest film, ‘Thudarum,’ took a different approach, opting for a low-key release, even after the huge success of his recent film ‘Empuraan.’ And guess what? It worked! ‘Thudarum,’ directed by Tharun Moorthy, raked in a whopping Rs 5.5 crore on its opening day, making it the second-highest opening for a Malayalam film this year.

This impressive feat puts it ahead of several recent releases, including Mammootty’s ‘Bazooka,’ ‘Alappuzha Gymkhana,’ and ‘Rekhachithram,’ which were all big hits but didn’t quite reach these numbers. The only film to beat ‘Thudarum’ this year is ‘L2: Empuraan,’ a collaboration between Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, which smashed the box office with an opening day collection of Rs 18.6 crore.

It seems audiences are eager to see Mohanlal on screen, no matter the release strategy! ‘Thudarum’s’ success proves that sometimes, letting the film speak for itself is the best way to go.
