Horror Flick ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Stumbles at the Box Office
The latest installment in the cult classic horror franchise, ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines,’ got off to a solid start at the Indian box office but failed to reach the Rs 10 crore mark on its second day. The film earned an estimated Rs 5.3 crore on Friday, bringing its total two-day collection to approximately Rs 9.8 crore.
Opening Night Strong, But Growth Slows
Released on Thursday, ‘Bloodlines’ opened with Rs 4.5 crore, powered by strong interest in both the English and Hindi versions. The English version led the way with Rs 2.5 crore, followed by Rs 1.5 crore from the Hindi dubbed release. The Tamil and Telugu versions added another Rs 50 lakh combined. However, Friday saw only marginal growth, with the English version bringing in Rs 3.25 crore, the Hindi version earning Rs 1.6 crore, and the Tamil and Telugu versions collecting a combined Rs 45 lakh.
Directors Talk About the Franchise Legacy
Directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ carries the torch of suspense and elaborate death sequences that have made the franchise a fan favorite.
“The most thrilling part of making a Final Destination movie is that it’s a Final Destination movie. You’re part of this franchise, this history, that has touched culture for the last 25 years,” said co-director Lipovsky.
The duo highlighted how the franchise has become a cultural touchstone, with people often referring to near-death experiences as “Final Destination moments.”
On the filmmaking process, Stein praised the team’s dedication to practical effects. “One of the most exciting things about making Bloodlines was all the practical effects and stunts we were able to do. We built the giant restaurant… and then we blew it up,” he shared. Lipovsky added, “We built a cabin in the woods, and then we blew it up.”
Big Weekend Ahead
Despite the franchise’s strong legacy and positive buzz, ‘Bloodlines’ faces a critical weekend. The film needs to maintain its momentum in the face of competition from Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,’ which is set to release in Indian cinemas on May 17, a week before its global release.
