Indian Film ‘Homebound’ Receives Emotional Welcome at Cannes
Neeraj Ghaywan’s ‘Homebound’ made a splash at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, earning a phenomenal 9-minute standing ovation after its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section.
Emotional Reunion and Applause
The scene was electric as the audience erupted in cheers and applause, visibly moved by the film’s powerful story. Director Neeraj Ghaywan was visibly emotional, receiving a long hug from producer Karan Johar. Actors Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, along with the rest of the crew, beamed as they soaked in the overwhelming reception.

A Story of Friendship and Dreams
‘Homebound’ tells the story of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who aspire to become police officers, hoping to achieve the dignity they’ve long craved. As they get closer to their dream, their strained relationship faces a major test.
The film, written by Neeraj Ghaywan and Sumit Roy, is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier. Adding to its prestige, Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese has taken on the role of executive producer for the film.
Cannes Success Follows a Tradition
This isn’t Ghaywan’s first time at Cannes. His debut film, ‘Masaan’, also premiered at the festival, receiving widespread acclaim and winning both the Un Certain Regard Special Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize.
