Ground Zero’s Box Office: A Rocky Start Despite Positive Buzz

Emraan Hashmi’s latest action thriller, Ground Zero, hasn’t quite taken off at the box office as hoped, despite generally positive reviews. The film, which tackles the sensitive subject of terrorism, is facing stiff competition from other releases like Sunny Deol’s Jaat and Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2.
While word-of-mouth about Ground Zero has been encouraging, ticket sales haven’t reached the peak expected. On its second day, the film earned an estimated 1.75 to 2.25 crores, marking a 46% to 87% jump from its opening day haul of 1.20 crores. This brings the film’s two-day total to approximately 2.95 to 3.45 crores.
The film has already surpassed the opening weekend collections of ‘Superboys Of Malegaon,’ but that’s not necessarily a cause for celebration given Emraan Hashmi’s star power. It’s unlikely to match the performance of other recent releases like ‘The Diplomat,’ ‘Deva,’ or even ‘Emergency,’ ‘Fateh,’ and ‘Badass Ravi Kumar.’
Ground Zero is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and also stars Sai Tamhankar and Zoya Hussain. The film is based on the true story of BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who led the operation that killed terrorist Rana Tahir Nadeem, aka Ghazi Baba.
The film’s theatrical release happened on April 25, 2025.
