Sundar C’s latest action comedy, Gangers, hit theaters yesterday with decent buzz but unfortunately faced a slow start. The film, starring Sundar C, Vadivelu, and Catherine Tresa, didn’t quite reach the coveted 1 crore mark on its opening day. While the response from audiences and critics has been mixed, with some finding it entertaining, particularly in the second half, it hasn’t quite set the box office on fire.

The film’s opening day collections were estimated at 58 lakh net at the Indian box office, according to Sacnilk. This is significantly higher than Sundar C’s last theatrical release, Vallan, which opened with a mere 11 lakh. In fact, Gangers boasts a whopping 427.27% higher collection than Vallan on its first day.

Despite the positive comparison to Vallan, Gangers faced an uphill battle. Occupancy rates remained relatively low, hovering around 14% throughout the day. This suggests that the mixed reviews and word-of-mouth haven’t quite convinced viewers to flock to theaters in large numbers.

With no significant jump expected today, Gangers has its work cut out to reach the 1 crore mark. Only time will tell if this reunion of Sundar C and Vadivelu after 15 years will be a box office success.
