Abhijeet Bhattacharya Speaks Out on ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ Remake in Varun Dhawan’s ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’

A Familiar Tune Gets a New Remix
The upcoming Bollywood rom-com ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde is already making waves. The film, directed by David Dhawan, is set to hit theaters on April 10, 2026, and has already grabbed attention for its use of a classic 90s song: ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ from the film ‘Biwi No. 1’.
This iconic track, originally composed by Anu Malik, will be recreated for the new film’s soundtrack.
The Original Singer’s Reaction
However, the remake has sparked some controversy. Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the original singer of ‘Chunnari Chunnari’, recently reacted to the news. In an interview with HT City, Bhattacharya expressed his surprise and disappointment that he wasn’t informed about the remake.
“Neither the music composer nor the film’s director told me about the remake. They don’t even have the courage to tell me,” he said.
Despite his feelings about the lack of communication, Bhattacharya acknowledged the song’s enduring popularity over the years.
“For the past 25 years, I have heard it being played at functions and parties, and would always think, ‘What is it about the song? There was nothing that I remember from the time I sang it.’ But I do realise it has become iconic for fans,” he shared.
A Trend of Replication
Bhattacharya also commented on the growing trend of recreating old songs in Bollywood.
“I don’t get involved much. In the market, copies are sold more than the original. Only great people know the value of the original. I don’t pay attention to these things,” he stated.
Looking Ahead
Meanwhile, the first poster for ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ has been released, teasing a fun and lighthearted romance. The caption reads, “Double the trouble, triple the fun! Jab Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai hits cinemas on 10th April 2026.”
