Expert Insights on GST Collections
Industry experts have reacted positively to the numbers. Abhishek Jain, Indirect Tax Head & Partner at KPMG, noted, “It’s encouraging to see GST collections once again cross the ₹2 lakh crore mark. While last month’s spike was expected with year-end reconciliations, the consistency this month along with a 16 plus percent year-on-year growth points to strong underlying momentum and a recovery that’s clearly taking hold.”
State-Wise Variations in GST Collection Growth
Deloitte India Partner M S Mani pointed out that substantial differences in GST collection growth across states necessitate a detailed sector-wise examination. While major states like Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu recorded collection increases between 17% and 25%, other significant states such as Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana showed growth up to 6%. States including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan demonstrated moderate increases of 10%.
Conclusion and Future Outlook
The consistent high GST collections are a positive indicator of economic recovery and tax compliance. As the economy continues to grow, it will be crucial to monitor sector-wise and state-wise growth to understand the underlying trends and challenges. With the government’s focus on increasing GST earnings, these collections will remain a key area of interest for policymakers and economists alike.
