Gold prices in Chennai saw a significant jump on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The price of a sovereign (8 grams) climbed by Rs 360, reaching Rs 71,960. This translates to a gram of gold costing Rs 8,995.
This recent increase follows a period of fluctuations in gold prices. Back in February, the price of a sovereign stood at Rs 63,240. It then saw a rise to Rs 64,000 before dipping slightly to Rs 63,520 on February 12th.
On March 14th, gold prices took a noticeable leap, jumping to Rs 66,400, a surge of Rs 1,440 from the previous day. Then, on April 22nd, gold prices soared to a record high of Rs 74,320 per sovereign, marking a substantial increase of Rs 2,200 from the day before.
Throughout May, gold prices have continued to fluctuate. As of today, May 27th, the price per sovereign stands at Rs 71,960.
Meanwhile, the price of silver remains stable, currently selling at Rs 111 per gram.
