Apple Shifts Robotics Focus, Separates from AI Chief

Apple Shakes Things Up, Robotics Go Their Own Way
Apple is at it again, making changes to how it develops new technology. This time, they’re moving their secretive robotics team away from their AI leader, John Giannandrea. Remember, this isn’t the first time Apple has made a shift like this. Back in March, they took Siri, their voice assistant, out of Giannandrea’s hands as well.
According to reports from Bloomberg, the robotics team will now be part of Apple’s hardware division, led by John Ternus. Apparently, this move will let Giannandrea and his team focus more on developing AI technology in other areas.
The robotics team has some pretty ambitious goals. They’re reportedly working on a tabletop robot that can move an iPad-like screen and even have ideas for a mobile robot with videoconferencing features! Back in February, there were rumors about Apple exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robots for use in smart homes.
This latest move comes as Apple looks for new ways to grow after shelving its plans for an electric vehicle. The company seems to be betting big on robotics as its next big thing.
As for the changes with Siri, it seems Apple’s top brass discussed AI heavily at their recent leadership meeting. They decided to put Siri under the leadership of Mike Rockwell, the person behind Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Rockwell’s team is now taking over Siri, replacing some of its previous managers. While Vision Pro hasn’t been a huge commercial success, Rockwell has a reputation for creating solid operating systems and products.
