Did Shashi Tharoor Just Become BJP’s Voice?

Congress leader Udit Raj took aim at his party colleague, Shashi Tharoor, calling him the “super spokesperson of the BJP”. Raj made the statement after Tharoor, leading a delegation in Panama, criticized Pakistan for its ongoing acts of terrorism against India.
Tharoor’s Panama Stand on Pakistan
Tharoor, addressing the Panamanian assembly, highlighted India’s surgical strike in Uri in 2015 as a significant moment, stating it was the first time India crossed the Line of Control (LoC) to directly target a terror base. He emphasized that India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7th only after Pakistan failed to act against the perpetrators of the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack. Tharoor stressed that India’s actions were not about starting a war but about ensuring that terrorism wasn’t left unpunished. He also urged Panama to help India put pressure on Pakistan to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attacks.
Raj’s Criticism: ‘Denigrating Congress History’
Raj, however, criticized Tharoor’s remarks, accusing him of “denigrating the golden history of Congress”. In a post on X, Raj reminded Tharoor that the Indian Army had crossed the LoC and entered Pakistan multiple times in the past, citing examples like the 1965 war and the 1971 war. He also pointed out that several surgical strikes were conducted during the UPA government, but they weren’t as widely publicized for political gain.
Raj questioned Tharoor’s loyalty to the Congress party, expressing disappointment that Tharoor seemed to downplay the party’s past achievements while highlighting the current government’s actions.
