Shameful Remarks: BJP Leader Attacks Muslim IAS Officer, Inciting Religious Tensions

BJP Leader Faces Backlash for Insulting Muslim IAS Officer
A Karnataka BJP leader has ignited a firestorm of controversy after making derogatory remarks against a Muslim IAS officer during a recent protest rally. N Ravikumar, the BJP’s chief whip in the Karnataka Legislative Council, allegedly questioned the district collector of Kalaburagi, Fauzia Tarannum’s, loyalty, suggesting she “came from Pakistan”.
The incident took place on May 24 as part of the BJP’s ‘Kalaburagi Chalo’ campaign. A video circulating online shows Ravikumar making the offensive statement during the rally.
Growing Pattern of Religious Insults
This incident is not an isolated case. The BJP has faced criticism for its members repeatedly making communal remarks, particularly targeting women from minority religions.
Just last year, Madhya Pradesh tribal affairs minister Kunwar Vijay Shah made offensive remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, an Indian Army officer, linking her to Pakistan. His comments, which sparked outrage and condemnation, even reached the Supreme Court, which criticized his “crass” language.
The Supreme Court constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe an FIR filed against Shah.
Calls for Accountability
The recent attack on Fauzia Tarannum has reignited concerns about the BJP’s rhetoric and its potential to incite religious tensions. There have been calls for action against Ravikumar, with many demanding an apology and appropriate disciplinary measures.
