Preity Zinta Calls Out Controversial Umpire Decision in IPL 2025

Preity Zinta’s Outrage Over Third Umpire’s Call
Bollywood actress and co-owner of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Preity Zinta, took to social media to express her strong disapproval of a controversial decision made by the third umpire during the recent IPL 2025 match between PBKS and Delhi Capitals (DC).
A Six or Not? The Controversial Moment
During the 15th over of PBKS’s innings, Shashank Singh appeared to have hit a six off Mohit Sharma’s bowling. However, the third umpire ruled it not out, claiming fielder Karun Nair hadn’t touched the boundary line while attempting to catch the ball. This decision awarded PBKS only a single run, sparking debate and criticism.
Nair’s Confirmation and Zinta’s Reaction
Adding fuel to the fire, Karun Nair himself signaled that the ball had indeed crossed the boundary. Zinta, in a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), stated that she had spoken to Nair directly, who confirmed that it was a definite six.
Expressing her disappointment, Zinta wrote, “In such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke To Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6 ! I rest my case ! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025”.
Impact on PBKS’s Playoff Hopes
This controversial decision, coupled with a six-wicket loss to DC, has put a serious dent in PBKS’s chances of securing a top-two finish in the IPL 2025 league stage. They must now win their final match against Mumbai Indians and hope for favorable results from other matches to make it to the playoffs.
Match Summary
In the match, DC posted 207 runs, which PBKS chased down with six wickets in hand and three balls to spare. Sameer Rizvi was the standout batsman for PBKS, scoring 58 runs off 25 balls, while Karun Nair chipped in with 44 runs. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer had scored 53 runs for PBKS, with Marcus Stoinis providing a late flourish of 44 runs off 17 balls.
