PSL 2025 Faces Setback: No DRS in Sight

Bad news for cricket fans! The remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 might not feature the Decision Review System (DRS) due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.

The PSL was initially postponed indefinitely following a military escalation between the two nations. While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tried to resume the tournament in the UAE, their proposal was rejected by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).

Technicians Stuck, Broadcaster’s Dilemma

According to sources close to a PSL franchise, the key players behind the DRS technology, primarily from India, are unlikely to return to Pakistan. This is attributed to the current strained relations between the two countries.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that the PSL’s primary broadcaster employs a large number of Indian nationals, who have left for home and are not expected to return anytime soon.

Franchises Feel the Strain

The PSL franchises are grappling with various challenges beyond the DRS issue. Several overseas players, including Mitchell Owens and Kusal Mendis, opted to return home rather than stay in Pakistan.

Adding to their woes, even England’s Alex Hales, who was scheduled to play for Islamabad United in the eliminator 2, has flown back home, leaving the franchise with a major blow.

The absence of DRS and these player departures highlight the significant impact of the India-Pakistan border tensions on the PSL 2025. It remains to be seen how the PCB will navigate these obstacles and complete the remaining matches of the tournament.
